About Pursuit Racing
In Pursuit racing two or more competitors (or teams) are chasing after a lead competitor or team.
In cross-country skiing a pursuit is a race where the skiers start according to results in a previous race. The final race is a pursuit where the overall leader starts first and is followed by the others starting behind according to their time from the first leg.
The combined pursuit is a classical race followed by a freestyle race. The skiers' classical time determines the staggered start for the freestyle race. Thus, first place goes to the first skier to cross the freestyle-race finish line.
The Turtle River Pursuit is a combined pursuit race. The first leg is an 11K classic race at MECCA Trails in Mercer on Saturday, February 15, 2020. The second leg is an 11K freestyle race at MECCA on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Saturday’s results determine the skier’s starting time on Sunday. The first skier and team to cross the finish line on Sunday wins the two-day combined pursuit race.
Awards will be given to the top three women and men in both the individual and team categories as well as age-group winners.
